History of the term Casino

Based upon the principle of Italian villa, in 1930 Casino da Povoa was made similar to a palazzo. It was a Portuguese casino and on similar lines other casinos like Villa Farnese and Villa Giulia were also made. Today it is considered as a closed house or the gambling house in Italy.

The word casino got a broader meaning to it in the 19th century when pleasure activities like gambling and sports started to happen in the public buildings. In Rhode Island, Newport Casino is a great example of the same.

Another interesting fact to know about Casinos is that not all casinos sported casino games. They were only the so called casinos which were used for other purposes like theatre or holding public meetings etc. one such landmark is next Avalon Harbor another is located in Hanko and is called Hanko Casino.
